Pre-Oscar awards show that is meant to be some sort of indicator of the Academy Awards but, in Mark Kermode's view, are simply a law unto themselves.

Mark felt that when they nominated Ikea Knightley for a Golden Globe for Atonement, it was like putting a piece of furniture up for an award. Around the time things like Burlesque and The Tourist came up, it seemed that they were simply nominating films in order to hang out with the cast.
